A SETTING FROM THE PAST

HISTORY

1900

A new school is designed by the Scottish architects Gordon & Gunton for the Royal Masonic School for Boys to move into from their former home in Wood Green.

1903

The foundation stone is laid by the third son of Queen Victoria, Prince Arthur, the Duke of Connaught.

1939

By the time of the Second World War, over 800 boys are at the Royal Masonic School for Boys in Bushey.

1970

The number of admissions declines and the upper school merges with the nearby junior school accepting boys from the age of 11.

1977

The Royal Masonic School for Boys closes and becomes the home of the United States International University (Europe).

1980s and 1990s

The imposing buildings are used as location sets for TV and films including The Life Of Brian, Judge John Deed, The Meaning of Life, Pink Floyd: The Wall, The Avengers, Nuns on the Run, Harry Potter

2009

The United States International University (Europe) closes and Comer Homes Group begins work to re-develop the site into luxury residences.
